About me

I am a UKCP registered psychotherapist.

I was for many years a lawyer in a stressful job.

My therapy journey began some years ago when I began to look into myself. This led me to reading around the subject and then eventually into training. Having had therapy for so many years I know what it is like to be the 'client'. Also, as a very wise therapist of mine said to me, in order to sort out your sh*t, I have to have sorted mine first.

Actually, that is one of the cornerstones of any good training, that we have therapy for a long time.

People say I am gentle, calm and safe.

I am able to stay calm under pressure and with difficult subjects. I hope that this means that I have the depth to 'hold' you through difficult times.

I am empathetic. I am also analytical. So, I am a bit of a mixed bag. Some might say a full range of sound (I am also musical).

About therapy or counselling

I offer therapy for adults.

I am very much there with you in the room, I am not a blank slate. There will be no lying on a couch for you with me out of view (unless that is what you want).

I am a great believer in the deep connection between mind and body. Indeed I would say that it is all one system.

Ultimately, good therapy is about the relationship between the practitioner and the client. Whether you, in time, can feel comfortable and safe with your therapist.

Everyone is different, but that does not mean what you are going through is not normal.

I trained in the modality of Transactional Analysis (TA) but that may mean as little to you as it did to me when I started out. I believe that understanding yourself more helps you to be less hard on yourself and to better understand others.

So, what happens? In many respects it depends upon you and what it is that you are bringing. All therapy is as individual as each person that comes to it. TA is a mainly talking therapy that has an emphasis on the fact that we all have value, even if we might have forgotten this somewhere along the line. Simply having someone to talk to is invaluable, especially when that someone is independent of your life, is non-judgemental and is on your side.

Therapy is useful for everyone, whatever your circumstances and however successful or unsuccessful you may think you are.

I can aid you to deal with whatever it is that you are struggling with:
stress;
grief;
relationships;
loss;
panic;
trauma;
anxiety;
a niggling sense that something is not quite right;
goodness the list goes on...

There is a lot of theory to TA, even though the very basics of it can be explained to you in a quick and accessible way (which is part of the beauty of it). The training is rigorous and thorough.

I am a pluralist, that is to say that I look at all sorts of types of therapy theory and practice that can be integrated or synthesised.
